How LumosCore Uses Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol

Moving assets between different blockchains has traditionally involved bridges, wrapped tokens, liquidity pools, and additional trust assumptions. LumosCore takes a different approach for USDC transfers by using Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP).

CCTP allows native USDC to move between supported blockchains without creating a wrapped version of the asset. Instead, USDC is burned on the source network and minted on the destination network.

What Is CCTP?

CCTP stands for Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol. It is an on-chain protocol developed by Circle, the issuer of USDC, to enable native USDC transfers between supported blockchain networks.

The key difference is how the transfer happens.

With a traditional lock-and-mint bridge, tokens may be locked on one network and represented by a wrapped version on another. CCTP does not work this way.

Instead:

USDC is burned on the source chain → the transfer is verified → native USDC is minted on the destination chain.

This means the USDC received on the other network is native USDC rather than a wrapped representation. Circle describes CCTP as a non-custodial burn-and-mint system that does not rely on traditional bridge liquidity pools.

How Does CCTP Work?

A CCTP transfer can be understood in three main steps.

1. USDC is burned

You choose the amount of USDC you want to transfer and the destination network. The USDC is then burned on the source blockchain.

Once the burn happens, those USDC no longer exist on the source chain.

2. Circle verifies the transfer

Circle's attestation service observes the burn and creates a signed attestation confirming that the transfer took place. This attestation is what allows the destination network to recognize and process the transfer.

3. Native USDC is minted

The attestation is submitted on the destination network, where the corresponding amount of native USDC is minted to the recipient address.

The result is a native USDC balance on the destination chain rather than a wrapped token.

How LumosCore Uses CCTP

LumosCore integrates CCTP into its cross-chain infrastructure to provide a simple way to move Curated Assets via $USDC between Stellar and supported networks.

Currently, LumosCore supports USDC transfers between Stellar and Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, Linea, and World Chain.

From the user's perspective, the process is straightforward:


  1. Select the source and destination networks.
  2. Enter the amount of Curated Asset.
  3. Approve the burn transaction.
  4. Wait for Circle's attestation.
  5. Claim the USDC on the destination network.

The final claim is a transaction on the destination chain, so users need to have enough of that network's native token to pay the required gas.

Why LumosCore Uses CCTP

Cross-chain functionality is an important part of a multichain platform, but moving assets between networks also introduces security considerations.

LumosCore is designed as a non-custodial platform. It does not operate a traditional bridge that holds pooled user assets. Instead, cross-chain transport is delegated to external protocols such as CCTP.

This approach provides three important principles:

No LumosCore custody: LumosCore does not take possession of users' funds during a cross-chain transfer.

Native assets where possible: When a protocol can deliver the native version of an asset, LumosCore prefers that route over a wrapped representation.

Transparent assumptions: Users should be able to understand which transport mechanism is being used and what its role is before signing a transaction.

This design also means LumosCore does not make its entire platform dependent on a single proprietary bridge.

A Simpler Way to Move USDC Across Chains

For users, the biggest benefit is simplicity. Instead of navigating different bridges and understanding which wrapped version of USDC they are receiving, LumosCore provides a single cross-chain experience powered by CCTP.

At the protocol level, the process remains transparent: burn on the source chain, verify the transfer, and mint native USDC on the destination.
